Neck and Décolletage Care: Why It Ages First and What Helps

The neck and décolletage often show age before the face because their skin is thinner, has fewer oil glands, gets plenty of sun and is usually left out of skincare routines. The fix is simple: treat the neck and chest as part of the face, every morning and evening, with sunscreen, hydration, barrier support and firming peptides.

Why the neck ages differently

  • Thinner skin. Neck skin is thinner than facial skin, so lines and loss of firmness show sooner.
  • Fewer oil glands. Less natural oil means the neck dries out more easily.
  • Sun exposure. The neck and chest get a lot of sun and often miss out on sunscreen. Over years this shows as crepey texture, uneven tone and brown spots.
  • Movement. Horizontal neck lines deepen with repeated movement, including looking down at screens.
  • Neglect. Most routines stop at the jaw.

What you may notice, by stage

  • 30s: faint horizontal lines and the first uneven tone on the chest.
  • 40s: deeper lines, softer contours under the jaw and crepey texture.
  • 50s and beyond: looser, thinner-looking skin and more visible dryness.

A neck and décolletage routine

  1. Cleanse gently and avoid harsh scrubs.
  2. Extend your treatment down from the jaw to the chest, morning and evening.
  3. Apply with upward strokes, from the collarbone to the jaw, without tugging the skin.
  4. Sunscreen every morning on the neck and chest, not just the face.
  5. Introduce retinoids carefully. Neck skin is more reactive, so start slowly.

Ingredients that matter for the neck

Designed for the neck: The Cervical Elixir

The Cervical Elixir is the hero of The House of Vellura, designed for the face, neck and décolletage. It combines five peptides, the full longevity complex, ceramides and three forms of hyaluronic acid in a fragrance-free formula.

Questions

Do I need a separate neck cream?

Not necessarily. What matters is that the neck gets a formula suited to thinner, drier skin, and that you actually apply it.

Can I use my face serum on my neck?

Usually, yes. If it contains strong actives such as acids or retinoids, introduce it more slowly on the neck.
