Copper Tripeptide-1 (GHK-Cu): the copper peptide

Copper tripeptide-1, often called GHK-Cu or copper peptide, is a small peptide (glycine, histidine and lysine) bound to copper. It is used in skincare to help skin look firmer, smoother and more resilient.

What it is

GHK is a peptide that occurs naturally in the body. It was first identified in human plasma in the 1970s, and researchers found it has a strong affinity for copper, a trace mineral the skin uses in many of its own maintenance processes. Copper tripeptide-1 is the copper-bound form of that peptide.

What the research looks at

Copper peptides are among the most studied peptides in skincare. Laboratory research has looked at GHK-Cu for its role in the signalling linked to the skin's support structure and its natural renewal. In cosmetic use, it is chosen to help improve the look of firmness, texture and fine lines with consistent use.

Why it is in Vellura

Copper tripeptide-1 is one of the four peptides in The Longevity Cream, alongside palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 and palmitoyl tripeptide-5.

Good to know

  • Gives formulas a faint blue tint, a natural sign of the copper it carries.
  • Suitable for daily use, morning and evening.
  • Results build gradually over weeks of consistent use.

Questions

Is GHK-Cu the same as copper tripeptide-1?

Yes. Copper tripeptide-1 is the INCI name you will see on an ingredient list.

Can I use copper peptides with other actives?

Copper peptides are best used in a formula designed around them. If you add strong acids or other actives to your routine, introduce them gradually.
